Natural sea sponge are ideal for bathing. It absorbs loads of water, clean the skin well, produces good foam and is hypoallergenic.
However, some sponges sold at stores are too hard to enjoy. How to soften a sea sponge?
The answer is very simple. Like all natural food, you have to boil it to make the sponge softer. Put the hard sponge into a pot of hot water and boil for at least 20 minutes.
After the process is finished, the spounge will be much softer and ready for hanging on the bathroom!

frankly, this sponges are a piece of crap – they barely produce any foam. synthetic mesh sponges are so much better. A month ago i still decidedd to give it a second chance and purchased another one at flea market at one of Thailand’s bigger islands. This new one is considerably softer when wet, but still is a piece of shit. they are marketed as “natural sponge” probably that’s why I assumed they are sea plants. thanks for clearing that out. actually I saw luffa dozens of times, but could not imagine they use it this way. at home we historically use basswood fibre to make bath sponges, but that’s only now used in “authentic” sauna experience.
Well, this is a rather huge and embarrassing mistake for you!
The thing pictured here is NOT a sea sponge, and is, in fact the fibrous fruiting body of a land plant, called a loofah (sometimes spelled luffah, for some reason, possibly by Americans).
It is a member of the gourd family.
The holes you see running through the length of the loofah is where the the seeds grow, and upon drying these must be cleaned out before using.
I have actually grown these before myself a few times, so I can confirm that this is in fact a loofah.
The difference between one of these and an actual sea sponge is like chalk and cheese.
Loofahs can be a bit abrasive, even when wet (sometimes a preferable quality) while sea sponges are generally lambswool soft when wet.
I don’t know who told you that this was a sea sponge, or why you believed it, but I can assure you, that it is not in any way, shape or form, a sea sponge.
A little bit of double-checking on the internet before posting would have saved you this embarrassment of being this wrong.
You must not get out much…..
