Folks from MSOUTLOOKWARE approached me to make a tutorial on using one of their products, PST Repair Tool, which is a utility to restore corrupted PST files from most popular MS Outlook versions.
For anyone thinking “who even uses Outlook these days”, I have to say that whose who are still forced to use Lotus Notes, envy those who already switched to MS Outlook. So, lets start. After installing and running PST Repair Tool, it first checks that Outlook itself is installed. Just click OK. Then add the damaged PST file by clicking the ADD button an navigating to the file location. The utility will scan and open the corrupted PST file, showing the recovered messages. You can switch view for better navigation, and then export the selected messages from the corrupted PST file. The software offers several formats, choose PST and click export. The selected messages will go to the newly created PST file, and PST Repair tool also generates a CSV file with log of the recovery, where you can see the success rate of the recovery. If you want to recover the entire PST file and not just selected messages, click the big Export button at the top. Here you can choose the desired date range and also split the resulting PST file into smaller chunks, if you need that. Click export, and after it completes, you get the recovered PST file and also a CSV log of the process. To open the recovered PST file, select the corresponding option in MS Outlook menu, point to the repaired PST file location and here are all your recovered message back in MS Outlook. As simple as that.
