EBay offers these funny USB cables with blinking leds on both ends.
They are flat, long enough and have USB 3.0 connectors. So I ordered one. It glows ok and works as a USB 2.0 cable. Well, I thought my device is too power hungry, so I removed the leds. But the popup telling me the device can work faster when connected to a USB 3.0 port kept appearing. I thought the cable it too long and thin, and cannot transport the required power, so I cut it in half to reduce the length. However, the cable only has 4 wires, while a USB 3.0 has 9 wires. This is a USB 2.0 cable sold at USB 3.0 to deceive the buyers. A typical EBay scam, so I filed up a case against the seller and won. I just want to warn you about this scam. If you need a 2.0 cable, then this can be a good purchase. Also, you can distinguish a USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 cables just by looking at the plug. USB 3.0 has an additional row of pins at the back of the connector, while USB 2.0 has only 4 pins. Too bad you can’t use this knowledge when shopping online.
