TikTok Finally Rolls Out Dark Theme for Android Users
Dark theme has long been a coveted feature for many mobile apps, and now, Android users of TikTok can finally enjoy it! For years, the dark mode option was exclusively available to iOS users, sparking speculations that Apple may have paid TikTok for this privilege. However, after a long wait, Android users can now switch to a sleek, darker interface for the popular social media platform.
The Journey to Dark Theme on Android
While dark mode for TikTok was already a reality for iOS users, the Android version lagged behind. In May 2024, TikTok’s regional app for Asia quietly received the dark theme update. By mid-summer 2024, Android users worldwide were finally able to enjoy the feature. If you’re looking to try it out, make sure you’re running TikTok version 3583. This version is the official TikTok app available on the Google Play Store—not the TikTok Lite or any modded versions.
How to Enable Dark Mode
Enabling dark mode on TikTok is simple. Follow these steps:
Open the TikTok app.
Tap on the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the top corner of the app.
Select Settings and Privacy.
Scroll down to find Display Settings.
You’ll be given the option to choose between Light Mode and Dark Mode. Select Dark Mode, and you’re good to go!
The Dark Mode Experience
Although the dark theme is now available, it’s not entirely flawless. Initially, the dark mode feels like a basic inversion of colors. For instance, the hamburger menu button is almost invisible against the dark background, which can be a bit of a hassle. However, TikTok has acknowledged these issues, and they seem to have fixed some of them in newer versions of the app.
While there’s still room for improvement, the dark theme offers a far more comfortable and less glaring experience compared to the bright white theme that has been the default for so long. For users who prefer darker interfaces, it’s a much-needed upgrade that improves usability, especially when using TikTok at night.
A Welcomed Change
Dark mode has become a popular choice for many users, reducing eye strain and extending battery life. With TikTok finally bringing this feature to Android, users can now enjoy a more relaxed browsing experience, whether they’re scrolling through their feeds or watching videos late into the night.
Though it’s not perfect yet, the rollout of dark mode on TikTok for Android is definitely a step in the right direction. We’re excited to see future updates and improvements, but for now, it’s a much-welcomed change!
