This well-packaged parcel contains two security cameras from aosu. Not long ago, I reviewed another product from aosu, an outdoor security camera, which I really liked. The only downside is that these are consumer-grade proprietary cameras. This means they can only be used with the official software, and you cannot integrate them with third-party apps or use alternative cloud storage options. If you want cloud storage, you must subscribe to aosu’s service. Unfortunately, this is becoming the norm across many brands, such as Ring, which requires an Amazon subscription for cloud storage.
If proprietary systems are unavoidable, I decided to stick with one ecosystem for all my cameras. Now, all three of my cameras use the same app, making management much more convenient.
aosu Indoor Camera P1
The aosu Indoor Camera P1 is a compact and well-built device, about the size of a soda can. Since it’s meant for indoor use, it has a sleek design that blends well with home interiors.
Key Features:
Resolution: 2K video quality
Connectivity: Supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi
Night Vision: Black-and-white infrared night vision
PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom): 360° rotation via the app
Audio: Built-in speaker and microphone for two-way communication
Power: Requires a constant power source via USB-C (wall adapter included)
Storage: MicroSD card slot (card not included) and optional cloud storage
Setup & Performance:
Setting up the camera was effortless, making it ideal for those unfamiliar with networking or CCTV setups. The picture quality is excellent, motion detection is immediate, and notifications arrive almost instantly.
One of my favorite features is the privacy mode: simply rotate the lens into the body, and the camera goes to sleep. Another useful feature is auto-cruise mode, where the camera scans the area every hour and alerts you if anything unusual is detected.
While it’s designed for indoor use, it can monitor outdoor spaces if placed near a window. However, the infrared night vision may reflect off the glass, distorting the image. This can be mitigated by turning off the infrared lights, though this will impact night vision performance.
aosu Video Doorbell Ultra
I decided to get a video doorbell after an expensive parcel was stolen from my doorstep. The aosu Video Doorbell Ultra comes with a home base, which serves as the Wi-Fi connection hub, stores footage locally (8GB storage), and provides the doorbell chime sound.
Key Features:
Resolution: 5MP high-definition video
Connectivity: Supports 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi
Storage: 8GB local storage (home base) + optional cloud storage
Power Options: Built-in rechargeable battery (lasts up to 6 months) or wired power (8V-24V)
AI Detection: Body heat detection, radar motion detection, and human shape detection
Two-Way Audio: Speak to visitors via the app
Anti-Tamper Alert: Triggers a loud alarm and sends a notification if the doorbell is forcibly removed
Setup & Performance:
The doorbell setup was straightforward. It includes two mounting brackets (flat and 15-degree angled) and all necessary installation tools. The battery life is impressive—after six days of use (20 recordings per day), only 2% of the battery was depleted.
One of the best features is the triple-layer motion detection, reducing false alarms while ensuring real movement is always detected. You can customize motion zones and detection distance, making the system more flexible for different door placements.
Pros & Cons of Both Devices:
Pros:
High-quality image resolution (2K for the indoor camera, 5MP for the doorbell)
Fast motion detection and notifications
Easy setup and user-friendly app
Strong Wi-Fi connectivity (supports both 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz)
Local storage (doorbell home base has 8GB)
Privacy features (manual lens rotation and customizable LED indicators)
Weather-resistant doorbell for outdoor use
Cons:
Proprietary system (must use aosu’s app and cloud storage)
No support for direct local storage access via USB or computer
Requires an internet connection to function (no offline mode)
Limited doorbell chime options
The app forces 12-hour time format on the doorbell
Final Thoughts
Both the aosu Indoor Camera P1 and Video Doorbell Ultra offer exceptional quality at an affordable price. The image clarity, smart detection features, and ease of use exceeded my expectations. While the proprietary system limits flexibility, the app works well, and aosu provides good customer service.
If you’re looking for reliable, high-quality security cameras that are easy to set up and use, these are excellent choices. Just be aware that they require an internet connection and that cloud storage costs extra. Despite these minor drawbacks, aosu’s products provide great value for money, making home security accessible to everyone.
